The Internet is steadily infiltrating our business and everyday life. This can be seen in the integration of mobile phones and the Internet, reorganization of e-marketplaces, Web2.0, and competitive relationship between media and the Internet. The evolution of the network society is being accelerated by severe competition to develop ICT (information communications technologies) and related devices and a new trend toward the next-generation network society is being established. In spite of the rapidly increasing use of the Internet, however, efforts to establish rules for the network society are falling behind, and improving the environment is urgently required to achieve a good balance between convenience and security.
Nikkei Inc. and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications jointly invite corporate executives and opinion leaders from both inside and outside of Japan to the Global ICT Summit 2008 to discuss the future development of the network society. The main theme of the Summit will be “To create the next generation network society.” The newest trends will be presented for discussion from the four viewpoints of “Mobile", “Post Web 2.0 society,” “Rise and fall of media,” and “ICT policies.” You are heartily invited to take part.
