Minister Eamon Ryan was first elected to Dáil Éireann in 2002. Prior to his appointment as Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources in June 2007, he was the Green Party spokesperson for Transport and Enterprise, Trade and Employment and Opposition Convenor on the Joint Oireachtas (Parliament) Committee for Communication, Marine and Natural Resources.
Prior to his election to the Dáil, Minister Ryan established two businesses, Irish Cycling Safaris and Belfield Bike shop. He was an active member and chairman of the Dublin Cycling Campaign, and from 1995 to 2002 he served on the Advisory Committee of the Dublin Transport Office.
Jasper Cheung joined Amazon after more than ten years of corporate finance experience for companies in Asia and North America. He began his Amazon career as Finance Director for Amazon.co.jp in December 2000, and was named Country Manager in April 2001. Under his leadership, Amazon.co.jp has greatly expanded the selection it offers to customers.
Prior to joining Amazon, Cheung served as Finance Manager for the Northeast Asia Health, Beauty, and Food & Beverage unit of Procter & Gamble. While at P&G he served as the Finance Manager for a number of Canadian and Japanese units and was Treasury and Sales Finance Manager for P&G Canada. Cheung began his career as an Airline Planning Officer at Cathay Pacific Airways in Hong Kong.
Cheung received his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Ontario’s York University in 1990 and he also holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Hong Kong.

He is the co-founder and CEO of Aplix Corporation. Aplix was founded in 1986 and has been listed on Tokyo Stock Exchange since 2003.

Jeff Barr is focused on furthering awareness among software developers of the opportunity to innovate and build businesses using Amazon Web Services. Launched in July 2002, Amazon Web Services exposes Amazon.com technology and product data that enables developers to build innovative and entrepreneurial applications on their own. Barr meets regularly with developers in the U.S. and internationally to introduce Amazon Web Services and to help them build businesses and applications with the program’s services. He joined Amazon in August 2002 as a Senior Software Developer on the Associates team. Jeff is the author of “Host Your Web Site on the Cloud,” to be published in the Winter of 2009 by SitePoint.
Barr has a longstanding interest in Web services and programmatic information interchange. He has held development and management positions at KnowNow, eByz, Akopia, and Microsoft, and was a co-founder of Visix Software. He earned his bachelor’s degree in computer science from American University and performed graduate work in computer science at George Washington University.
Haiying Wang is CMO of cloud computing and responsible for HuaWei Cloud Computing Marketing.
He brings over 17 years of software experience to Huawei. Prior to joining HuaWei, Haiying co-funded Digital Support Technology, Inc. as CEO responsible for the company’s strategy and overall operation. Digital Support delivers innovative online support service.
Previously, Haiying was a senior manager at VMware, Inc., a leading virtualization company where he was managing server management team and responsible for VMware’s flagship product, Virtual Center, development and

Songnian received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 1987, and subsequently took a faculty position at the University of Toronto as a professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering.
Songnian's Ph.D. thesis established the field of distributed resource management, which provides a foundation for grid and cloud computing, hailed by industry experts as the next evolution of IT.
This research was the catalyst for the creation of Platform Computing, which he co-founded. Under Songnian's leadership, Platform has grown from a company of three employees to 500 strong, with 15 offices around the globe.
Songnian has been recognized for his excellence in leadership and innovation with the Ernst & Young Technology Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2002. In 2001, he was elected a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, and received the Innovation Award for Leadership in Product Development from the Information Technology Research Centre (ITRC) of Ontario for Platform LSF in 1995.
Yasuyuki Higuchi became president and CEO of Microsoft Japan on April 1, 2008. Founded in 1986, Microsoft Japan is the company's second-largest subsidiary with a workforce of more than 2,000 employees. As Japan is home to some of the world's most advanced consumer and commercial technology, Microsoft Japan plays a major role in supporting the company's broad initiatives and objectives.
Higuchi joined Microsoft in March 2007 as the COO of Microsoft Japan, bringing a combination of strategic vision, tactical execution and broad business leadership developed while working in Japan for such companies as Boston Consulting Group, Apple, Compaq Computer and Hewlett-Packard.
Higuchi's began his career at Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. as an engineer, and then moved on to a business strategy role at The Boston Consulting Group K.K. In 1994, he took on a marketing role at Apple Japan, Inc., working in their consumer business before joining Compaq Computer KK in 1997. When Compaq Computer merged with Hewlett-Packard in 2002, Higuchi became Vice President & General Manager of Industry Standard Servers at Hewlett-Packard Japan, Ltd., ascending to President in 2003. In 2005, he led the restructuring of Daiei Inc.— the second largest retailer in Japan — as President, successfully completing its revitalization prior to joining Microsoft
Higuchi holds a bachelor's degree in Engineering Science from Osaka University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Nobuhiro Endo was appointed President of NEC Corporation effective April 1, 2010 after serving as the Senior Vice President.
During his tenure as Senior Vice President, Endo's responsibilities included corporate strategy and business development, and he held a key position in driving various management reforms of the NEC Group. Endo has also taken a key responsibility in formulating the mid-term growth plan of the NEC Group, "V2012 -Beyond boundaries, Toward our Vision-"
Endo joined NEC in 1981. He spent the next two decades in the development of wireless communication systems, mainly for satellite communication systems and mobile phone base stations. A native of Riverside, Calif. John Ham is the co-founder of Ustream and its Chief Executive Officer. John founded Ustream in March 2007 with partner Brad Hunstable, with whom he studied at West Point, as well as Dr. Gyula Feher, lead technologist. John has been a featured speaker at National Broadcasting Association, Web 2.0 Expo, Digital Hollywood, Always On, Streaming Media, Red Herring 100 and others. John has shown propensity for entrepreneurship from a young age, and began trading equities and options when he was 16. Greg Pass is the Chief Technology Officer at Twitter. Previously, he was the VP of Engineering for the company. Prior to Twitter he was the CTO and co-founder of Summize, a system architect at AOL, and the CTO and co-founder of ToFish.
In 1971, Mr. Yamashita joined Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation (now NTT). Following the separation of the former NTT DATA Communications Systems Corporation from NTT in 1988, he successively served at NTT DATA as senior executive manager of the Research and Development Headquarters, Planning Sector; Industry Sales Headquarters; Business Planning Development Headquarters; IT Business Development Sector; and Corporate Strategy Planning Headquarters. In 2005, Mr.Yamashita was named Senior Executive Vice President and Representative Director.

Norio Murakami joined in 2003 as vice president of Google Inc. and president & general manager of Google Japan and was responsible for all aspects of Google's business in Japan. He became chairman of Google Japan in 2009.
Before joining Google, Norio was president of Docent Japan, where he established the Japanese subsidiary in 2001. He built a solid foundation of leadership for Docent in Japan – and in the e-learning industry generally – through many partnerships including those with Accenture, NEC, and Works Applications.
From 1997 to 1999, Norio was president & CEO of Northern Telecom Japan. In this capacity, he successfully merged and integrated the company with Bay Networks Japan, whose parent company had been acquired by Northern Telecom, and was later re-named Nortel Networks Japan. With the transformation of the business from circuit switching to IP, Norio increased the company's revenue and profitability to a historic high in 2000. Through mid-2001, he served as president & CEO of Nortel Networks Japan.
Norio started his career as an engineer for minicomputer systems at Hitachi Electronics K.K. In addition to his service at Northern Telecom, he has held a number of management roles such as the CEO-Japan & VP-Corporate for Informix, and as a member of the board of directors for marketing at Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) Japan. This affiliation also included a five-year assignment at DEC headquarters in Massachusetts.

Based in Tokyo, Japan, Kevin Yu heads Asia Pacific for Tesla Motors.
Mr. Yu attended the University of California at Berkeley's Haas School of Business and the University of Tokyo at Komaba. Mr. Yu began his career as the founder of an internet startup based in Los Angeles and Tokyo, focusing on facilitating the exchange of goods between importers in both cities. He joined PayPal Inc in 2004 to manage international Consumer Protection programs. In 2006, Mr. Yu took on the challenge of leading PayPal expansion to Japan, culminating in PayPal's 2008 market-entry into Japan and the passage of the Electronic Money Transmission act by the Japanese Diet in 2009.
Following his lifelong passion for no-compromise automobiles, Mr. Yu joined Tesla Motors in 2010 to drive their entry into Asian markets.
In addition to his official responsibilities, Mr. Yu has advised several American and Japanese startups on doing business in Japan and the United States.
He strongly believes that human ingenuity can overcome the most challenging problems of our day without compromise to our standard of living.

Mr. Takenaka joined the Power Systems Control Department of the Fuchu Works of Toshiba Corporation in 1978. In 1991 he became Manager of the department, and in 1997, he became its General Manager. He became Technology Executive in the Power Systems Division in 2005, and in 2008 moved into Toshiba’s Transmission Distribution & Industrial Systems Company. Currently he is Chief Technology Executive of the in-house company, as well as being General Manager of the Photovoltaic Systems Division.
Mr. Takenaka received his Master’s Degree in Engineering from Yokohama National University in 1978.

Ambassador Philip L. Verveer was confirmed as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and U.S. Coordinator for International Communications and Information Policy in August, 2009.
Ambassador Verveer has practiced communications and antitrust law in the government and in private law firms for more than 35 years. From 1969 to 1981, Ambassador Verveer practiced as a trial attorney in the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice, as a supervisory attorney in the Bureau of Competition of the Federal Trade Commission, and as the chief of the Cable Television Bureau, the Broadcast Bureau, and the Common Carrier Bureau of the Federal Communications Commission. Between 1973 and 1977, he served as the Antitrust Division’s first lead counsel in the investigation and prosecution of United States v. American Tel. & Tel. Co., the case that eventuated in the divestiture of the Bell System. As a Bureau Chief at the FCC, Ambassador Verveer participated in a series of decisions that enabled increased competition in video and telephone services and limited regulation of information services. In 1979, Ambassador Verveer became a charter member of the Senior Executive Service and in 1980 received the Distinguished Presidential Rank award. Between 1981 and 2009, Ambassador Verveer engaged in private law practice in Washington, DC.
In 1995 and 1996, Ambassador Verveer chaired the Federal Advisory Committee that identified the spectrum requirements necessary to afford public safety organizations efficient and interoperable wireless communications. He has served on the Visiting Committee of the University of Chicago Law School and the Executive Committee of the Alumni Board of Governors of Georgetown University.

Mr. LIU Ziping was elected as the Chair of APEC Telecommunications and Information Working Group(APECTEL) in 2009 at APECTEL 39 in Singapore. Between 2006 and 2008, he served as the Vice Chair of APECTEL.
Born in 1963, Mr.LIU Ziping graduated from Shanghai International Studies University in 1986. Between 2005 and 2006, he studied in the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee of USA, with a master degree in business administration.
Since 2005, he has been serving as director for International Organizations in the Department of International Cooperation of the former Ministry of Information Industry and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, P.R.China. He has been charged with responsibilities for coordinating activities and policies in relation to China’s participation in the activities of ICT-related international organizations and has been actively involved in multilateral discussions and negotiations in the field of ICT policies and regulations, including leading delegations to various important international conferences and meetings.

Yasu Taniwaki, Division Director of ICT Strategy Policy Division, Global ICT Strategy Bureau, MIC (Ministry of Internal affairs and Communications, Japan), joined the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (currently MIC) in 1984. After serving in several positions, including ICCP Division of the OECD (1987-1989), he served as Deputy-Director of the Telecommunications Policy Division (1993-1997), where he dealt with several telecommunications policies such as the reorganization of NTT, and a variety of deregulation programs of the Telecommunications Business Law (TBL). After serving as Secretary to the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications (1999-2000), he served as Director for Telecommunications Policy, where he drafted a report on new Japanese telecom competition schemes compiled by the Telecommunications Council in August 2002 and a report on layered competition models in the IP age, compiled by the Study Group on New business Models in June 2002. He also contributed to setting up the Telecommunications Dispute Settlement Commission and Japanese Universal Service Fund, as well as to introduce the concept of “dominant regulations” through revision of the TBL in 2001. After serving as Economic Counselor and Telecommunications Attaché at Embassy of Japan in US (Washington D.C.) (2002-2005) , he served as Director of Competition Policy Division(2005-2007) and Director of Telecommunications Policy Division, where he compiled “New Competition Promotion Program 2010” (September 2006) , “Mobile Business Revitalization Plan” and the report of Study Group on network neutrality. He has served in his capacity since July 2008.

Kun Gao is a serial entrepreneur who likes to make web sites that are fun.
In 2006, along with a few fellow friends and Anime enthusiasts, Kun launched Crunchyroll. Today, Crunchyroll is the #1 global official social network and streaming site for Anime and Asian drama and recently won an AMD award from the Association of media Digital, the jurisdiction of which is held over by Japanese government’s Somusho.
In 2005 Kun built and sold Frappr to Slide, a leading widget and Facebook application developer. Before that, Kun worked as a senior engineer for the hugely popular Hot or Not.
Kun was born in China and immigrated from Beijing to the US with his family at age 9. Kun holds a Bachelors degree from Berkeley in Electrical Engineer Computer Science and Math, and is a PHD candidate in CS from Carnegie Mellon on hiatus.

Kenji Nagai joined the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) in 1973 after graduating from Keio University with a Master’s degree in Engineering.
Mr. Nagai contributed greatly to the development of the satellite news gathering. He served as Vice-Chairman of CCIR TG CMTT-5 from 1990 to 1994 and as Vice-Chairman of ITU-R WP4 SNG from 1992 to 1994.
He also served two years as Vice-Chairman of the ABU Engineering Committee from 1992 to 1994 and played a major role at the 31st annual meeting of the ABU Engineering Committee in Kyoto, Japan in 1994.
Mr. Nagai makes a significant contribution to the transition from analogue to digital for terrestrial and satellite broadcasting.
From 2001 to 2006, he successively held the posts of Director of the Transmission Engineering Center, Director of the Planning Division and Director-General of the Engineering Administration Department at NHK.
From 2006 to 2008, he became President and CEO of the Broadcasting Satellite System Corporation (B-SAT).
In 2008 Mr. Nagai was appointed Managing Director of NHK.
In 2009 he was appointed General Managing Director, Executive Director-General of Engineering, where he is responsible for all areas of NHK’s engineering including research and development activities, information systems and security.
Waichi Sekiguchi is an editorial writer for Nikkei Newspaper, the largest economic daily in Asia. He joined Nikkei in 1982 and currently covers the IT industry and cyberspace issues. Sekiguchi used to be a Washington correspondent during the Bush and Clinton Administrations in early 90s, covering US trade and government issues. Prior to that he was a Fulbright research fellow at the Center for International Affairs of Harvard University and he was a chief writer for The Nikkei Weekly, the English edition of the Nikkei newspaper. He has also written many books on the Internet and IT industry. Titles include "Cyberspace Revolution," "Savvy Search Technique," "Pioneers of Japanese PC Industry," etc. He graduated from Hitotsubashi University and he is a visiting professor at Hosei University Business School and The Center for Global Communications (GLOCOM), International University of Japan. He also teaches at Waseda University and Meiji University as a part-time instructor. He is a member of the Japanese government cyber security committee and the government global ICT competitiveness committee.
