Ed Vaizey MP was elected as the Member of Parliament for Wantage and Didcot in May 2005.
Born in 1968, Mr Vaizey attended Merton College, Oxford. After university he spent two years working as a political researcher, before training and practising as a barrister. From 1996-2004 he was director of a public relations company. In 2004 he became a political speech writer.
Mr Vaizey was Shadow Culture and Creative Industries Minister 2006-2010.
He married Alex in September 2005. They live in Sparsholt and London with their son Joseph and daughter Martha.

Sir. Howard Stringer is Chairman of Sony Corporation and serves as Representative Corporate Executive Officer and as a member of the Sony Board of Directors.
Sir. Howard also serves as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sony Corporation of America (SCA), as well as corporate head of Sony Corporation's Entertainment Business Group. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Sony Music Entertainment and oversees Sony's other music-related holdings in the U.S.
Sir. Howard served as Chief Executive Officer and President of Sony Corporation until April 1, 2012, when his chosen successor, Kazuo Hirai, formerly Executive Deputy President, assumed those positions. Sir. Howard will relinquish the Chairman title and become Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sony Corporation effective upon Board approval following the annual shareholders meeting in June 2012.
Sir. Howard joined Sony in May 1997 as President and COO of SCA. He was named Chairman and CEO of SCA in 1998, and became Chairman and CEO of Sony Corporation in June 2005. The title of President was given to him in April 2009.
Prior to joining Sony in May 1997, Sir. Howard had a distinguished 30-year career as a journalist, producer and executive at CBS Inc. As President of CBS from 1988 to 1995, he was responsible for all broadcast activities of the company, including entertainment, news, sports, and its radio and television stations. Under his leadership, the CBS Television Network became the first network to rise from last to first place in one season. In 1993, in what became one of the most chronicled coups in television history, Sir. Howard convinced David Letterman to bring his critically acclaimed late night show to CBS.
From 1986 to 1988, Sir. Howard served as President of CBS News, where he developed several new programs, including the award-winning 48 HOURS, which continues as a primetime hit to this day. Prior to that, during his tenure as executive producer of the CBS EVENING NEWS with Dan Rather from 1981 to 1984, that program became the dominant network evening newscast of its day. From 1976 to 1981, while he was executive producer of the CBS REPORTS documentary unit, it won virtually every major broadcast journalism honor, including 31 Emmys, four Peabody Awards, three Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Awards, three Christopher Awards, three Overseas Press Club Awards, an ABA Silver Gavel and a Robert F. Kennedy Grand Prize. Among his award-winning programs are THE ROCKEFELLERS, THE PALESTINIANS, A TALE OF TWO IRELANDS, THE DEFENSE OF THE UNITED STATES, THE BOAT PEOPLE, THE BOSTON GOES TO CHINA, THE FIRE NEXT DOOR and THE CIA'S SECRET ARMY. He earned nine individual Emmys as a writer, director and producer from 1973 to 1983.
After leaving CBS Inc., Sir. Howard was Chairman and CEO of TELE-TV, the media and technology company formed by Bell Atlantic, NYNEX and Pacific Telesis, three of the largest telephone companies in the United States, from February 1995 to April 1997.
Sir. Howard is the recipient of numerous media and philanthropic awards. The Paley Center for Media (formerly The Museum of Television and Radio) presented him with its Visionary Award for Innovative Leadership in Media & Entertainment in February 2007. He has also been honored by Lincoln Center, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the New York Hall of Science. In May 1999, he was honored with the UJA-Federation of New York's Steven J. Ross Humanitarian Award and, that November, he was inducted into the Royal Television Society's Welsh Hall of Fame. In 1996, he was awarded the First Amendment Leadership Award by the Radio & Television News Directors Foundation in Washington, D.C., and was inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame. In January 2011, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences presented him with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 62nd Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards and, in January 2012, he received the PhotoImaging Manufacturers and Distributors Association Person of the Year Award for "significant contributions to the imaging industry in a leadership position."
Sir. Howard serves as Chairman of the American Film Institute Board of Trustees and is on the Board of Trustees of the Paley Center for Media. He is also North American Chairman of the British Army Benevolent Fund. He is a board member of The New York/Presbyterian Hospital, The American Theatre Wing, Teach for America, the Corporate Leadership Committee of the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and Carnegie Hall. He is also a member of the Dean's Council of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.
A native of Cardiff, Wales, Sir. Howard received the title of Knight Bachelor in the New Year Honours list of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on December 31, 1999. He holds a B.A. and an M.A. in modern history from Oxford University. He has honorary Fellowships from Merton College, Oxford, and the Welsh College of Music and Drama. Sir. Howard has also received Honorary Doctorates from the University of Glamorgan in Wales and the University of the Arts London. He is a recipient of the U.S. Army Commendation Medal for meritorious achievement for service in Vietnam (1965-1967). He became a U.S. citizen in 1985. He is married to Dr. Jennifer A.K. Patterson, a dermatologist, and they have two children.

P. Thomas Jenkins is Executive Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer for OpenText™ Corporation (NASDAQ: OTEX, TSX: OTC) of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, a $1 Billion multinational enterprise software firm and the largest software company in Canada. OpenText supports over 100 million digital media users in many of the world's largest companies, government agencies and professional service firms. OpenText's software manages electronic content composed of digital media from web sites to secure social networks. Managing this electronic content helps organizations improve productivity, automate processes and manage large volumes of electronic content ranging from documents, e-mails, video, web pages and other digital media while at the same time complying with regulatory and other legal requirements.
Over the past 20 years, Mr. Jenkins has pioneered many of the technologies commonly used today to manage digital content within organizations "behind the firewall". Recognized as one of the "100 Most Influential People" in the world of knowledge management by KMWorld for five years in a row, Mr. Jenkins has been involved with the Internet since it emerged as a major public network in the early 1990s. As CEO of OpenText Corporation, he was instrumental in the creation of one of the first internet search engines that was used by Netscape®, Yahoo!® and IBM®. In partnership with Netscape and later Microsoft, Mr. Jenkins went on to direct the development of the first Internet-based Document Management system as well the earliest versions of internet based Workflow, Portals and Social Networking software. All of these component technologies are early forerunners of current ECM (enterprise content management) technology. Mr. Jenkins is the author of "Behind the Firewall" and "Managing Content in the Cloud" and he has also co-authored all three books in the Enterprise Content Management Trilogy.
Mr. Jenkins has served as a Director of OpenText since 1994 and as its Chairman since 1998. From 1994 to 2005, Mr. Jenkins was President and Chief Executive Officer. From 2005 to present, Mr. Jenkins has been Executive Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer of OpenText. Prior to these positions, Mr. Jenkins was employed in technical and managerial capacities at a variety of technology companies dating back to the late 1970s.
OpenText Corporation has been Mr. Jenkins's passion as he helped take the company from its original roots of indexing the Oxford English Dictionary to become a worldwide organization with thousands of employees and more than a billion dollars in annual revenues. He is active in developing the high tech sector in Canada and abroad and is a much called-upon speaker on high tech and business trends throughout the world.
In addition to his OpenText responsibilities, Mr. Jenkins was Chair of the Government of Canada's Research and Development Policy Review Panel which reported "Innovation Canada: A Call to Action" in October 2011 which reviewed the $7 Billion of federal public spending on research to assist the Canadian economy in becoming more innovative. He is also the Chair of the federal centre of excellence Canadian Digital Media Network (CDMN) which co-ordinates commercialization activity in the digital economy throughout Canada. He is also an appointed member of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), past appointed member of the Government of Canada's Competition Policy Review Panel which reported "Compete to Win" in June 2008, and past appointed member of the Province of Ontario's Ontario Commercialization Network Review Committee (OCN) which reported in February 2009. He is also Chair of the Premier of Ontario's roundtable on innovation. Mr. Jenkins is also a member of the board of BMC Software, Inc. a software corporation based in Houston, Texas. He is also a member of the University of Waterloo Engineering Dean's Advisory Council, a member of Wilfrid Laurier's MBA Dean's Advisory Council, a director of the C.D. Howe Institute, a director of the Canadian International Council (CIC) and a director of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives (CCCE). Mr. Jenkins is also one of the founders of Communitech ? Waterloo Region Technology Association and remains active in the promotion of technology entrepreneurship in Canada.
Mr. Jenkins received an M.B.A. in entrepreneurship & technology management from Schulich School of Business at York University, an M.A.Sc. in electrical engineering from the University of Toronto and a B.Eng. & Mgt. in Engineering Physics and Commerce from McMaster University. He is a recipient of the National Sciences and Engineering (NSERC) post graduate scholarship, the University of Toronto Scholarship, the McMaster Chancellors Scholarship, the 2009 Ontario Entrepreneur of the Year, and the 2010 McMaster Engineering L.W. Shemilt Distinguished Alumni Award. He is a fellow of the Canadian Engineering Society. On December 30, 2011, Mr. Jenkins was named an Officer of the Order of Canada.

Dr. John M. Lervik is the CEO and co-founder of cXense (pronounced [ see-sense ]), and is in charge of the strategic direction of the Company. His vision is to redefine how companies globally serve and interact with their customers online by providing a cloud-based context computing platform, which provides for uniquely relevant and intuitive user experiences.
Before founding cXense, Dr. Lervik was a co-founder of Fast Search & Transfer (FAST). He served as CTO from 1997 to 2001, and then as CEO through the acquisition of FAST by Microsoft in 2008. Following the acquisition, he served as Corporate Vice President of Enterprise Search in Microsoft until 2009.
In 2005, Dr. Lervik was one of technology innovators named as part of the prestigious Forbes E-Gang. Lervik holds a PhD from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), where he was awarded the Esso prize for the best overall PhD in 1996 / 97.

Yamano was born in 1959 in Tokyo, Japan. He received Master degree in Control Engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1984, and completed Executive MBA program from Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2001.
After worked for AT&T Bell Laboratories, Yokogawa Hewlett-Packard (currently Hewlett-Packard Japan) and Autodesk Japan, Yamano was involved in establishing Computer Associates (currently CA Technologies) in Japan in 1997. In 1998, he joined RSA Japan and led Marketing department. In 1999, he was promoted to President of RSA Japan as well as Security Dynamics Technologies Japan. After RSA Security Japan was established through the merger of two companies, Yamano became President and Representative Director. He drove rapid business growth of the company being responsible for overall business management including Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Finance and HR. In addition, he has been a board member of Japan Network Security Association (JNSA) since its establishment and proactively promoted IT security.
In July 2010, with additional responsibilities as Vice President and Executive Director of EMC Japan, he led both EMC Japan and RSA Security Japan. Since January 2011, he became President and Representative Director of EMC Japan to support customers by providing the market-leading values of EMC.

Greg Goelz serves as vice president and general manager of the Enterprise Storage Solutions (ESS) group at SanDisk, where he is charged with overseeing the business including development, sales and marketing of solid state storage solutions for the enterprise market. Previously, he was the vice president of marketing at Pliant Technology. In this role, he led all marketing, product management and business development activities for the company.
Prior to joining Pliant, Goelz was the vice president of marketing at UPEK, Inc. where he helped establish the company's leadership position in the PC market for trusted fingerprint biometric solutions. Ryuji Yamada assumed the posts of NTT DOCOMO INC. President and CEO in June 2008 after an accomplished 35-year career with both NTT DOCOMO and its parent company, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT).
Since joining NTT DOCOMO as a Senior Executive Vice President, a Member of the Board of Directors and Managing Director of the Corporate Marketing Division in June 2007, Mr. Yamada has contributed greatly to the growth and advancement of the mobile market for corporate customers.
From June 2004, prior to joining NTT DOCOMO, he was a Senior Executive Vice President for NTT, where he oversaw its world-class research center and exercised decisive leadership in developing the company's Next Generation Network (NGN).
From July 1999 to June 2004, he held various top managerial positions at Nippon Telegraph and Telephone West Corporation (NTT West), a regional fixed- telecommunications carrier in western Japan, where he played a key role in making the company profitable just three years after NTT's reorganization in 1999.
In 1994, Mr. Yamada took the lead in drawing up NTT's "Basic Concept and Current Activities for the Coming Multimedia Age," the strategic plan for the company's transition from voice services to a wide range of advanced IP services for the Internet age, which continues to underpin the NTT group's long-term vision. Over the years he was also a central figure in planning NTT's 1.7-trillion-yen network of nationwide facilities.
Mr. Yamada started his career at NTT Public Corporation in April 1973 as a network engineer after graduating from Osaka University's Graduate School of Engineering with a master's degree in telecommunication engineering.
Known for his athletic ability, he enjoys golf, tennis and skiing in his free time. He was born on May 5, 1948.

Hiroyuki Tsutsumi is Vice President of North Asia Service Provider Operations for Cisco. His mission is to deliver innovative solutions and services for service providers, including communication carriers and broadcasting carriers, to promote their success.
Previously at Cisco, he served as Vice President of Japan Service Providers, where he built a strong leadership team that has captured market share and accelerated growth. Before that, he managed the service provider business in his position as Managing Director.
Prior to joining Cisco, he spent 19 years at NEC as manager of executive office and Senior Manager of International Business Operations in charge of service provider business development and new business creation, including mergers and acquisitions.
Tsutsumi is a member of Next Generation IP Network Promotion Forum and is also keenly interested in IT educational activity.
He is a graduate of the Faculty of Science and Technology, Keio University, and has completed the Stanford Executive Program of the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Clifford Ficke serves as president of Qualcomm Japan since May 2012 and is responsible for overseeing Qualcomm' s operations in Japan. Before joining Qualcomm in May 2011 as vice president of sales and operations, Ficke served as vice president of sales and business development at Applied Micro Circuits Corporation. Prior to Applied Micro Circuits Corporation, he held a variety of sales and business development roles at different semiconductor companies, including NEC Electronics and Marvell Semiconductor. Ficke holds a master' s degree in business administration with a focus on relationship marketing and sales management from Northern Illinois University.

A "corporatized entrepreneur", Humphrey Chen is Executive Director at Verizon Wireless where he focuses on new technologies and leads Verizon's 4G Venture Forum (www.4gvf.com). In addition, he works actively with venture capitalists and start-ups to proactively fulfill new opportunities and technologies in the 4G world.
Prior to joining Verizon, Humphrey worked at Avaya where he was credited with extending the office dial-tone to the mobile world via the $15M acquisition of Traverse Networks. He also has extensive experience in the field of Unified Communications and Business Process Integration during his tenure at Microsoft Corporation.
Early in his career, Humphrey founded his own venture capitalist-backed start-up. His telecom and communications journey began at AT&T Bell Labs and even took him through a tenure with the United States Federal Communications Commission's Wireless bureau during the PCS-C block auctions.
He has an undergraduate degree from M.I.T. and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Jim Hagemann Snabe was appointed Co-CEO of SAP alongside of Bill McDermott in February 2010. In this capacity, and as a member of the SAP Executive Board and Global Managing Board, Jim Hagemann Snabe focuses on developing and executing SAP's strategy together with Bill McDermott. The Co-CEOs strengthen relationships with customers and partners, drive SAP's innovation portfolio across all markets, and ensure operational excellence across the company.
Jim Hagemann Snabe has been a member of the SAP Executive Board since July 2008. During his 22-year tenure at the company, he has held various management roles in consulting, sales, and development. In 2002, he was responsible for the design and creation of SAP's flagship enterprise resource planning software, SAP ERP, as well as SAP solutions for financial and public services industries. Later, Jim Hagemann Snabe led SAP's industry business unit, and was responsible for creating industry-specific solutions for more than 24 industry segments.
Jim Hagemann Snabe received a master's degree in operational research from the Aarhus School of Business in Denmark. His views about the role which leaders and IT need to play in creating sustainable growth and responsible business strategies has been strongly shaped by his commitment to environmental and humanitarian issues.

Mark began his career with GE in 1980 through the Financial Management Program and, after various roles in finance and business development in the US, moved to Taiwan in 1993 to head GE Capital' s efforts in that market.
Mark moved to head GE Capital Indonesia in 1995 and in 1998 to lead GE' s efforts in Thailand as President of GE Capital and GE National Executive. In 2000, Mark moved to Japan as President and CEO of GE Capital Japan and later assumed the role of President and CEO, GE Japan.
After 23-years with GE, Mark joined Prudential Corporation Asia at the end of 2003 as Chief Executive and in early 2007 served as an advisor to Cerberus Asia Pacific.
In October 2007, Mark rejoined GE as President & CEO of GE Japan, and in April 2008, he was appointed as President & CEO of GE Greater China. He returned to Japan in March 2011 and reassumed the role of President and CEO of GE Japan.
Mark graduated summa cum laude from Pennsylvania State University in 1980 with a bachelor' s degree in honors economics.

Yasuyuki Higuchi became president and CEO of Microsoft Japan on April 1, 2008. Founded over 20 years ago in 1986 and with a workforce of more than 2,000 employees, Microsoft Japan is Microsoft's second-largest subsidiary. Also, because Japan is home to some of the world's most advanced consumer and commercial technology, Microsoft Japan plays a major role in supporting the company's broad initiatives and objectives.
Higuchi joined Microsoft in March 2007 as the COO of Microsoft Japan. He exemplifies a rich combination of strategic vision, tactical execution and broad business leadership developed by working at leading international companies in Japan including Boston Consulting Group, Apple, Compaq Computer and Hewlett-Packard.
After spending ten years at Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. fresh out of Osaka University as an engineer, Higuchi sharpened his business acumen and strategic thinking at The Boston Consulting Group K.K. In 1994, he took on a marketing role at Apple Japan, Inc., gaining valuable experience in the consumer business before joining Compaq Computer KK in 1997. When Compaq Computer merged with Hewlett-Packard in 2002, Higuchi became Vice President & General Manager of Industry Standard Servers at Hewlett-Packard Japan, Ltd., quickly ascending to President in 2003. In 2005, he took on the challenge of leading the restructuring of a struggling retailer, Daiei Inc. - the second largest retailer in Japan - as President, successfully completing its revitalization prior to joining Microsoft.
Higuchi holds a bachelor's degree in Engineering Science from Osaka University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Dr. Hamadoun Touré, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) since January 2007, was re-elected for a second four-year term in October 2010.
As Secretary-General, Dr. Touré is committed to ITU's mission of connecting the world, and to helping achieve the Millennium Development Goals through harnessing the unique potential of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).
A long-standing champion of ICTs as a driver of social and economic development, Dr. Touré previously served as Director of ITU's Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) from 1998-2006. In this role he placed considerable emphasis on implementing the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), launching projects based on partnerships with international organizations, governments, the private sector and civil society.
Prior to joining ITU, Dr. Touré started his professional career in native Mali in 1979. He built a solid career in the satellite industry, serving as managing engineer in Mali's 1st International Earth Station. He joined Intelsat's Assistance and Development Programme in 1985. He was appointed Intelsat's Group Director for Africa and the Middle East in 1994, earning a reputation as an energetic leader through his commitment to various Regional connectivity projects such as RASCOM. In 1996 he joined ICO Global Communications as African Regional General Manager, spearheading the companies' activities across the African region.
A national of Mali, Dr. Touré holds a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Technical Institute of Electronics and Telecommunications of Leningrad, and a PhD from the University of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics of Moscow. He is married with four children and two grandchildren, and is proficient in four official ITU languages: English, French, Russian and Spanish.

Stephen Bell currently serves as Counselor to Ambassador Philip L. Verveer, U.S. Coordinator for International Communications and Information Policy, U. S. Department of State. In that capacity he advises Ambassador Verveer on a variety of communications and information policies including those relating to data protection and privacy. He also advises the Ambassador on efforts to enhance communications laws and regulations in developing jurisdictions.
Prior to joining the Department Mr. Bell served as Senior Counsel at the Washington Lawyers Committee for Civil Right and Urban Affairs. In that capacity he organized pro bono legal support for organizations providing relief and restoration aid in Haiti.
During the previous 35 years, Stephen Bell has counseled telecommunications service providers, value-added service providers, major users of communications service, investors, investment bankers, regulators and foreign governments on a wide variety of domestic and international laws and regulations affecting financing, commercial activities and regulatory obligations in the field of telecommunications.
In the last 10 years Mr. Bell's practice has centered on the many novel issues arising from the recently enacted and implemented legislation (in the U.S. and foreign jurisdictions) relating to data protection, privacy, data security and data breach, with a particular emphasis on the impact such rules have on the operation of trans-border enterprises providing communications, financial, information and other Internet services.
Mr. Bell was a partner at Willkie Farr & Gallagher from 1996 to 2007, and of counsel from 2007 to 2009. From 1982 to 1996 he was a partner with Squire, Sanders & Dempsey.
He is a member of the following associations: the American Bar Association; the District of Columbia Bar Association; the Wisconsin Bar Association; the Federal Communications Bar Association; the ITechLaw Association; and the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
- Dr. Réka Szemerkényi

Réka Szemerkényi was nominated Chief Advisor in Foreign and Security Policy to the Prime Minister of Hungary in 2011. In this capacity, she covers the non-EU related foreign policy agenda of Hungary, Central European regional relations, the Balkans, Russia, Trans-Atlantic issues, as well as energy security, for the Prime Minister.
Prior to this, between 2006 and 2011, she was Head of International Affairs and Chief Advisor in International Relations to the Chairman of the Board, of MOL Group, the Hungarian Oil and Gas Company. In this capacity, her role was to cover European Union energy policy and security developments and the establishment of the Central European regional energy cooperation, as well as to provide professional support for executive decisions on a wide range of issues in international affairs.
Réka Szemerkényi held various governmental posts previously. Between 1998 and 2002, she was State Secretary for Foreign Policy and National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister of Hungary. From 1991 to 1994, she was Senior Advisor to the State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of Hungary.
In her academic and research work, she is regular speaker at high level international conferences, she is also university lecturer at the Institute of Kremlinology, Karoli University in Budapest, as well as at the ASERI Centre of International Relations, Catholic University of Milan, Italy. She was foreign policy op-ed author of the Hungarian weekly magazine Heti Válasz. She is author of several publications in international relations, security policy and energy security. She worked as Research Associate at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London (1995-6) where she wrote Adelphi Paper No. 306 entitled Central European Civil-Military Reforms At Risk, published by Oxford University Press in 1996. She was elected President of the Hungarian New Atlantic Initiative, NGO, between 2003 and 2012 and she now serves as elected Vice President of the Hungarian Atlantic Council.
Réka Szemerkényi made her Masters Degree in Strategic Studies as Fulbright Fellow at SAIS, the Johns Hopkins University, in Washington DC (1993-5). She earned her Doctoral Degree at Péter Pázmány Catholic University of Budapest in 2006, her PhD Thesis being: "Energy Security - West European and Warsaw Pact Energy Strategies between 1945-1990."
Réka Szemerkényi was awarded the Bene Merito honour by Radoslaw Sikorski, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland (2010). She was honoured L'Ordre National du Mérite, Commandeur, by President Jacques Chirac (2001). In Hungary, she was decorated National Service Award for the Contribution to Hungary's Joining NATO, by the Minister of Defense of Hungary (1999).

Leong Keng Thai is the Deputy Chief Executive & Director-General (Telecoms & Post) of the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA).
Leong has more than 25 years experience in the telecommunications industry. In his position as Director-General of Telecommunications since 1996, Leong has played a key role in significant milestones of the industry, including the full liberalisation of the sector, the introduction of a competition regulatory framework, and most recently, the deployment of the Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network.
Leong graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) from the University of Singapore and obtained a Master of Business Administration from the University of Southern California, USA. He also attended the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School.

Gerard de Graaf is Director in Directorate-General Information Society (DG INFSO) responsible for audiovisual policy, media and the Internet as well as international relations. Since June 2011, he is also acting Director for electronic communications policy. In this capacity, he is responsible for a number of policies and instruments which are key to the functioning of the digital single market in Europe.
Before joining DG INFSO, Gerard de Graaf was Head of Unit for Innovation Policy in DG Research and Innovation. Between 2005 and 2010, he led the unit responsible for the co-ordination of the Europe 2020 Strategy (and before that, the Lisbon Strategy) in the European Commission's Secretariat-General, which is the service of President Barroso. From 2001 until 2005, Gerard de Graaf was Head of the Policy Unit in DG Internal Market. From 1997 until 2001, Gerard de Graaf was trade counsellor at the Commission's Delegation to the United States in Washington DC with a particular focus on financial services, procurement and technology issues.
He joined the European Commission in 1991, working on procurement policies before becoming private assistant to the Director-General. He started his career in the private sector and then worked at the Secretariat-General of the Benelux Economic Union (and Schengen), focussing on the removal of border controls within Europe.
Gerard de Graaf studied Social Geography and Regional Planning (cum laude) at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) and European Studies (magna cum laude) at the Catholic University in Leuven (Belgium).
He was born in 1962 in Delft in the Netherlands.

A restless entrepreneur, Tetsuya Sanada founded several companies across a variety of fields while still a college student at Kwansei Gakuin University.
In 1989, he started up a content provider based on voice and fax using Dial Q2, a premium-rate telephone number service also touted as the predecessor of the popular i-mode mobile internet service.
1997 saw Sanada joining the company ACCESS, where he contributed to i-mode's initial design, in addition to browser development. In 1998, he created CYBIRD, a company focused on various mobile media, of which he was the Vice President and CTO. Come 2000, Sanada set up yet another company, this time to serve as a mobile software R&D branch for CYBIRD, known as KLab (called "K Laboratory" at the time). Sanada has been upholding the role of CEO there ever since.
